Feelings of hopelessness and despair

There's an old quote (from Heinlein I think) that goes something like:

"If the sun's up, you still have a pulse, and background radiation levels are nominal...everything else is gravy."

In other words, don't dwell on every worry, because life goes on. If things do get worse, at least it won't be boring.

I think it's less about actual things happening (things have been much worse before)... and more about Olympic levels of Stupid being normalized by today's society.
