Storebought Copy-ish. Homemade hamburger/hotdog buns

My kids and i just made these and they hold up to real burger usage. they're a soft style bun like Sarah Lee, not hard like member's mark. Hope you guys like 'em.

Ingredients
1/2 cup flour (more later)
2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
1 cup very warm water
3 Tablespoons melted butter
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 large egg
1 1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups AP flour
Optional: One more egg and 1 Tablespoon of milk for brushing into the tops before baking.

Directions

1. Mix the 1/2 cup flour, water, and yeast in a large bowl. Stir just enough so that the yeast isn’t floating at the top of the water. Let proof (sit undisturbed) for 10 minutes.

2. While you wait, melt the butter in a measuring cup. I just used a 1 cup model and melted the butter in the microwave for 15 seconds, then added the salt, sugar and egg to it after it cooled enough not to cook the egg. This saved dishes
Pour this into the big bowl with the yeast when the 10 minutes is up. Mix well.

3. Add the 2 cups of flour, about 1/2 cup at a time, mixing/kneading well as you go. Add just enough flour so that the dough is still tacky but when you touch the dough, large amounts of dough don’t stick to your fingers. If you get too much flour, add a tablespoon of water until you get tacky dough again. About when the dough stops sticking to the bowl, you have enough flour.

4. Cover dough with a towel and leave to rise in a cold oven for 2 hours.

6. After 2 hours, take the dough out and separate it into 7-8 balls depending on the size you want. I made 7 from this recipe because we like big buns and we cannot lie.

7. Form the dough bits into balls and put them on your baking sheet. I used a big pizza stone. Press them down until they're about 1/2 inch tall.

7. Stick them back in the cold oven and let them rise another whole hour.

8. Optional: Mix that last egg and milk together and paint the top of the buns now. Add sesame seeds if you want.

9. Turn the oven on at 350 and cook for about 17 minutes.

10. Let them cool and then cut them in half. Pile with goodies. Eat and get enjoy.
