Basement question

I'm not sure what you are asking exactly.

In generally, the earth is 55º year round.

If you have no source of heat, the earth sheltered parts of your house will attempt to either warm, or cool to 55º.

Assuming your house was perfectly insulated, your basement would be 55º

Given that its not, it will be somewhere between 55º and whatever the outside temp is.

But it won't be higher than 55º unless the outside temp is higher.

So unless you consider 55º an acceptable temperature, you need some kind of heating system even if your basement was perfectly insulated.

If your just asking wether it will freeze down there or not, that depends on your outside temp. It will certainly resist freezing to a degree.
