welder/generator question

I bought a small inverter welder recently. It is great. It plugs into the standard (Australian) 240VAC 10A wall socket and although you can only do small weld jobs it is much more convenient than dragging a 3-phase welder around or firing up a tractor powered welder.

I was thinking of running it off of a generator but the manual specifically says "Do not use with a generator, warranty will be void".
Anyone know why this is? Or is it just bogus company CYA legal stuff?
Conventional thinking would suggest that it can be being powered by any generator which produces over 2400W.
Is it something to do with the inverter circuitry not liking surges or something? Anyone done it? Ideas?
TIA.
