10lb. 72 Hour Bag

Let's see your 10lb or under 72 hour bags!

First post, skip this paragraph if you'd rather not hear about my background. As a resident of central FL for the majority of my life I have undoubtedly encountered more than one hurricane that sent us to a shelter. In addition to this, I have spent a few years being homeless due to various circumstances. I mention this because I want to stress the importance of real world applications for your posted kit and/or contents. Be it stuck in a shelter for three days to two weeks, or walking 20+ miles each day - proper preparation can make all the difference.

I have created this post because I would not leave my home under any threat unless circumstances made the residence unlivable (think people on rooftops during Katrina.) Inherently we would want to take more with us if we were able, but as one interviewee of Katrina had mentioned, taken with a grain of salt, he was not allowed to bring his backpack with supplies when rescued. This is where the 10lb kit or "easy to conceal and essentials to save my arse" pack comes in.

The List:

1. Jansport Fanny Pack 4.0 oz
2. Grayl Ultralight 10.9 oz (Walk any direction long enough in FL and you can find a fresh/dirty water source.)
-Bandana 3.2 oz
3. Datrex 3-Day Rations 48.0 oz
4. Frog Toggs Rain Suit 25.6 oz
5. First Aid Kit 7.0 oz
6. Hygiene Kit 23.0 oz
7. NOAA Weather + Radio 4.0 oz
-AA Batteries (4-Pack) 4.2 oz
8. Energizer Vision Headlamp 5.0 oz
-AAA Batteries (8-Pack) 3.2 oz
9. Documents + Maps + Cash 6.2 oz

144.3 oz = 9.0 lb

*An additional 1lb may be devoted to a lighter(s) + mess kit if I can find a light enough pan that fits the shape of the Jansport Pack.

**One word of advice from someone who has been there, if what you're carrying is not food or water is it worth its weight in not being one of these two basic components of survival? Hygiene and first aid are typically easy yes's, the rest is up to you.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
