This got me thinking: What is the "standard" amount a person should store? |
Good luck trying that.
Your question isn't just subjective. It's 100% subjective. There is no standard amount because it boils down to a person's comfort level.
Worse is that comfort level will change over your lifespan.
The closest you could get to an answer is run a statistical study with a high enough sample size that allows you to extrapolate the average of what everyone's gut is feeling.
Here's an interesting link: http://ift.tt/OuDjRY
If you plug in a 95% confidence level and the fact there are 148,403 members registered here, and a over/under confidence interval of 5% (error rate) then you would need to get 197 clear responses of an exact amount of time for each person, in order to have a good idea of what our gut feelings say on average so you can come up with a "standard amount".
197 on the whole isn't a terribly massive number of people to ask, but people on forums are like herding cats. Ask any moderator at any forum if you don't believe me.
Perhaps you could create a poll and hope you get enough folks. If you will accept a 10% error level on a 95% confidence level then you only need 78 people. With a 15% error rate (meaning roughly what 4 out of 5 people think) then you only need 39.
Of course you will need to plot and compute the spread of your poll choices and then run your statistics......
How long ago was your last stats class?
