The Need For Young Poor Adults.

The necessary institution of being a poor, independent, young adult is becoming a distant memory. The current expectation is to start on third base and laterally transfer from comfort of Mom and Dad's place to a "starter home" or start a full time job with benefits after 4 years of college. This modern mindset has it's long term effects:

1. No exposure to "poor" people. Living in a low rent apartment complex with a gaggle of roommates has it's life lessons. Experiencing "White Trash" and "ghetto culture" first hand lets you understand the romanticized politics and class warfare arguments are mostly the invention of those with zero actual experience.

2. No exposure to Liberty. How can we expect a person to understand the concept of Liberty when they have 22+ years of nothing but regimentation and coddling while preparing to be "independent"?

3. No exposure to the value of money. Stretching a dollar, learning that credit has to be paid back with interest, and saving money for a big purchase need to be experienced. IMO the concept of value has been greatly skewed with instant credit and disposable goods culture.

This is not a bash on Millennials. I know there are plenty young people out there working their asses off and, to be fair, in a much tougher and expensive environment than when I was starting out.

I am more interested in a discussion regarding the long term effects of modern expectations.
