Solder CHEAPER per lb than pure tin?

How is it that tin/pewter ingots seem to be over $10 per lb, whereas you can get rosin core solder at less than $10/lb?

Lead is a lot cheaper. Is it possible to soldier with pieces of pure lead if the flux is applied prior to soldering to the metallic connections?

Grizzly Gear Food Rations?

I'm looking to toss some MRE-type stuff into the 72 hr BOB, but considering how pricey the good MREs are, I'm searching for cheap alternatives without sacrificing quality. I have Amazon Prime and would prefer to shop there. I found this and was wondering if anyone else has used them. I'm on the petite side and 3600 calories is a bit ridiculous even if I'm theoretically on the move for 12 hours a day. Thoughts?

Bill Kristols advice for Trump.

Anyone see what Billy boy said on Foxes Britt Hume show? Personally, I hate the guy. He's the quintessential establishment republican whose done everything in his power to stop Trump.

That said...I found myself pondering the value of the advice he offered up for Donald Trump that IMO would totally shock the country and almost ensure a win.

Simply state that he will only serve one term. I'd bet he rise at least 5-10 percent in the polls. Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought that Trump would probably only want to serve one term anyway. You think he'd want to go through all this crap again? More importantly..it might make enough undecided give him a chance.

Four years to...defeat Hillary, drain the swamp, close the border, build the wall, kill ISIS, fix Obamacare, redo trade deals, etc, and last but not least....satisfy his ego. Heck, just putting a stake in Hillarys heart would be enough of an accomplishment for most I would think. When he wins, he'll have both sides of the aisle shaking in their boots. He should have enough political capitol to force real changes. Then....basking in his glory....hand over the reigns to Pence for 8 years to finish the job...and climb the stairs of Trump One and fly off into the sunset.

Dunno, maybe I shouldn't have upped my dosage tonight...

Old A/C compressor to create vacuums

I want to use an old A/C compressor from a car to generate a vacuum and create a siphon. It will be spun by hand. I figured just about everything out except for the following:

1. The compressor appears to have come without oil. I only spun it by hand a few times so I doubt I caused permanent damage. My question is, can I add regular motor oil to it instead of refrigerant oil? It will be used for light duty and spun by hand without the use of electricity to engage the clutch.

2. The intake pike appears to be a regular smooth pipe. There appear to be no threads in it. What is a good way to connect a hose to it? I'm hoping to get something that has NPT on the other side so I can hook it up to the rest of the rig.

Compressor seems to work. Even the clutch engages at 2 amps, though this is unnecessary for my application as I will spin a part of the assembly that is permanently attached to the compressing assembly rotor.

Feminism: Satan's Plan to Destroy Your Family

Mr Johnson has just released a great article on feminism. He has put over 200 hours into it and it is the most complete article I have seen on the subject!

I thought I knew how deep feminism ran, I was wrong. It's deeper than I imagined.

The article is full of references for the basis of his argument and is solid.

Best of all, any of his articles are free for anyone to copy and distribute. He makes all of his materials available for free via download.

This article on feminism is quite long but well worth the read and educational.

Here's the main topics covered:

Contents:

Introduction to Feminism
The Illusion of Male Privilege
Exposing the Truth Behind Domestic Violence
The Illusion of Rape Culture
The Illusion of a Wage Gap
The Biblical Role of Men
Testimonies of Ex-Feminists
Final Thoughts.

My absolute TOP fire starting aids

After a lifetime of starting fires in the woods, I have 3 things that I feel are the top helpers so far as fire starting goes.

Before I get into them, I want to talk about some definitions.

Ignition:
This is anything that produces the initial spark or ember. Think Ember from bowdrill, or sparking devise of some kind like striking flint and steel into char cloth, ferro rod, to matches and the infamous bic lighter.

Helper/Aid:
This is anything that catches that ignition, and helps it grow to a usable flame to start our fire.

Tinder and fuel:
This is what actually becomes your fire.

These are chosen for easy of availability, low cost and effectiveness.

So, for my top 3 we have:

3. Jute twine (representing natural tinder bundle materials)
2. Charcoal grill starter cubes. Webber Cubes and Ignite'O fires are at the top of the list.

And number 1, of all time:

Cotton Balls impregnated with Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly

Whats your top 3?

Prep store ideas

I have a buddy that is trying to get a preparedness store up and running. It will be a lot of online business, but there will be a store front as well. For starting small, what would you think would be the top items that people would want to see and touch before they buy? Here is a short list of ideas:

Canning and food prep equipment
Literature pertaining to food and water collection and storage
Water storage equipment
Long term storage containers
Gun and blade bar

There are other ideas, but I wanna see what ya'll would want to see in a store.

Gossner order from Dollar Tree Review

Food:
Gossner Whole Milk in 1 quart sealed container. (12 pack case)

Price:
$1 per sealed quart

Stamped "Best By" date:
August 19th 2017

Purchased from:
Dollar Tree website, shipped to store.

Review of order:
My local Dollar Tree has this item in stock regularly, but I wanted to order a few cases to keep during the winter for my child. I picked up the item 10/31/16 after receiving the delivery email on 10/29/16 and ordering 10/20/16. The case had been opened and taped up with an orange tape. One of the 12 quarts was missing, one was missing the lid, and one looked like it had been kicked around quite a bit. The store manager couldn't tell me why I was asked to sign off on a missing package, but did hesitantly tell me to get replacement from the shelf.

Rating for Dollar Tree order:
1/5
-Shipping was slow but free
-Manager didn't have any care until pressed about missing merchandise in front of 10 people in line.
-Maybe a star higher, but trying to reseal a case with tape when something was missing was low.

The product itself:
5/5
- I recommend Gossner milk to anyone looking for a short term (less than 1 year) milk supply that doesn't need refrigeration until opened. I know there are reviews showing the milk being ok to use after 2 years, I don't plan to personally keep a milk in liquid form past a year.
-The taste is good, I prefer it over Walmart whole milk.
-The nutrition facts are within 10% up or down for all categories as compared to Walmart whole milk.
-$1 is hard to beat for this product as other similar brands are $1.86 at my local Walmart.

Would you buy a Humvee?

First, I think this is correct place for this post.

I'm in the market to buy a new vehicle, my price range is under 20k.
I was at a trunk or treat event with a car show over the weekend. There was a guy there with a Humvee he had gotten from Ironplanet.com. Basically He buys them, gets them registered, makes them street legal and all the background work you'd normally have to do to buy a military Humvee and drive it on the road.
He wanted about 16k for one. I got in the one there and really enjoyed how I felt in it.

I've always wanted one of these and now having an actual chance to get one, my question is is that a decent price for them?

I don't know tons about them although my gf is a combat vet and informed me that the ones she drove in Iraq were reliable.

It also fits the criteria in a vehicle I want.
Diesel engine
4 wheel drive.
Would prefer manual transmission but those aren't easy to find.
Durable.

450 ml or 750 ml pot of camping, hiking

My current cooking pot is a 450 ml Optimus terra solo. Mostly I boil water in it for mountain house freeze dried food. It seems small for noodles.

I am thinking about going up to a 750 ml pot.

I have a Vargo sierra 750 but my stove does not fit in it very well.

What size pot do you use for cooking while camping or hiking?

Harry Reid is At It Again

In a report by the New York Times about the chronology of events leading up to the FBI obtaining a search warrant to review emails discovered on Weiner's computer........it says the Senate Democratic Minority Leader is accusing Director Comey of withholding information on Donald Trump's secret ties to the Russian government and Vlad Putin.

Eerily similar to the 2012 attack on Mitt Romney when Reid accused Romney of not paying taxes for ten years and having no evidence to date to back that smear up, Reid said at the time that the American public deserved to know. Today, he his making the same attack on Trump knowing it is a smear that has no basis but is put out there as a smoke screen for Clinton. I can't imagine a country with a Commander In Chief like Clinton and a lackey like Reid in the Senate.

DefaultWhat's it like in the Fayetteville Springdale Rogers area?

Was browsing the country and daydreaming of relocating and came across an area I know nothing about, the Fayetteville Springdale Rogers area of NW Arkansas. Is the area basically merged into one city or distinctly separate cities? What is the approximate population of the entire region? Are good deals in real estate lurking in the countryside? Crime? Meth-heads? Trashy? Safe? Clean? Just trying to get a general feel for the area. Looks like a small enough area that most have never heard of but large enough to find employment and survive. Been to Hot Springs and points south, is the geography similar? What is right and wrong with this part of the state?

Asda Takes No Card Payment Glitch

Yesterday, it was reported that there was a glitch in Asda's computer system whereby no card payments were accepted. This meant long queues of angry shoppers etc.

I know it meant that some may have gone without food for a day, but I saw the whole thing as highly amusing. The fact it happened on a Sunday didn't escape me either. It made me wonder how many of those waiting will now become preppers, and take CASH shopping etc.

Compressor pre-use prep?

I just bought an air compressor to power some small air tools at home. It's a MAC700 by Makita. It was quite a good deal at under $200. Low RPM for better life, oil-lubricated, etc...

It's rated for 12.4 amps which is about the lowest I've seen for an oil-lubricated compressor. I tested the electrical plug I will be using by plugging in a water heater and blasting it to full power (nominal 1,500 watts) for 10 minutes. 12.4 amps at 120 volts is just under 1,500 watts so I'm hoping the compressor does not blow the switchboard (the heater did not, either).

My question is, once I get the compressor, do I need to put oil in it or does it come with the oil? If I do need to get it, what else do I need to do to prepare it for use besides making sure it has the right level of oil?

Questions about fixing up a house

Well give me striped socks and paint me green because a house just fell on me.

I got it for a song from a professor I did some work for. It's definitely a fixer-upper but I couldn't pass up such a good deal. It was built in the 1950s, 1000 sq ft, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 8000+ sq ft lot. It's structurally sound and in a good neighborhood where property values have been steadily increasing. My plan is to fix it up and keep it as a rental.

The good news is the roof was redone recently, there's no weather damage, it has a really nice kitchen remodel, new appliances, a new high-capacity water heater, upgraded light fixtures, and beautiful terra cotta tile floors in perfect condition throughout which is a coveted feature around here.

The bad news... well, that's a longer list. It's been unoccupied for a while. Someone left food in the fridge when the electricity was turned off. It oozed out and the house is home to one of the worst smells since the Salton Sea. A variety of critters have taken up residence in the attic, there might be dead ones in there adding to the odor problem. The yard, which has an interior walled garden that used to have fruit trees, is a tragedy. Panes were gone from a back window and several doors are missing from closets and cupboards (but the upgraded light fixtures were left untouched, oddly). Someone stole the copper grounding rod.

It needs paint in and out, new porches, doors, etc. It's the worst-looking house in the neighborhood, not because there's anything inherently wrong with it, just neglect. Neighbors have complained about the yard and the odor - yes, it's so bad you can smell it from the sidewalk. The neighborhood kids must circulate legends about the old, run-down smelly house at the end of the street...

So far I've done a basic yard clean up and I keep a car parked there so it doesn't look abandoned. Next on the list is that odor. Have to knock that down before I or anyone else can get inside to do any work on the place.

Does anyone have experience with ozone generators? Output, use time, that sort of thing? Or is there a better way to deodorize the house? You can't underestimate the smell. Seriously. It's impressive. Febreeze would run away from it.

Also, is there any way to truly eradicate cat dander from wood? The laundry room is separate from the house across a little walkway but they share the same roof. It's part of the original structure but it wasn't completely enclosed. Later someone built a plywood shed-like addition onto it. The shed has holes for windows and a door but they never installed them so the whole thing was open to the elements and animals. The neighborhood cats claimed it as their own. It's a real mess, I couldn't even go in there.

I can knock down the addition but I can only clean up and then enclose the original laundry room. How the heck do you extract dander from painted wood?

Any other advice about fixing up a house is welcome. Since I am probably going to be away for spring and part of the summer, things are going to get interesting as I try to manage the improvements from out of town.

What weapons are lawful to carry anywhere in Texas?

What weapons (rifles, shotguns, swords, knives, slingshots, clubs, collapsible baton, etc.) are lawful to carry anywhere in the State of Texas without a license? The only thing protected constitutionally is the gun, yes?. I don't have a handgun license, or currently own any guns, or have experience with shotguns.

So I was thinking about getting a Beretta 1301 Tactical semi-automatic shotgun with LaserLyte Center Mass Laser and a Nordic MXT Extension Kit. The primary purpose of the gun would be for home defense, so for ammunition I was thinking Federal Personal Defense #4 Buckshot.

What is the law on knifes in this state?

It is going to take something big to get people stirred up

It is going to take something big to get people stirred up to such a level as another Pearl Harbor event did seven decades plus in the past, but this time, a lot of people will have to suffer big time for the effect to sink in.

When we as a people are comfortable, we have a tank of gas, a big screen TV, pizza delivered to the house, water runs through the pipes when we turn on a valve, we are heated adequately in the cold of winter, our garbage is picked up for us, our phones work, the electricity in our homes and businesses work and we can call 911 when something is wrong, we will do nothing as a majority. Shut these services off and watch what the people do then. These essential services are going to get very lean because money is the only thing that keeps these things operational. We are broke and it will catch up to us soon.

If at some time in the near future we have to watch grandma freeze to death in the winter and we can't do anything about it, the worms will turn. We as a people are going to have to suffer before we get what is happening to us clear in our minds as a nation. Right now Americans by and large are comfortable and they are not under any major threat except from their own governments. When more of the government's jack-booted thugs begin to harass its own people and the comforts we enjoy on a personal level begins to slip to enough of us, then, and only then will the people come together as a united group and that's when the real changes will happen to America. That is when we will fight back as a whole country. The traitors among us will remain traitors and one by one we will catch them, and each one of them will suffer what they justly deserve.

I'm an old guy. I have seen much in terms of negative changes to my country happen. I would never have believed thirty years ago my country would turn into the biggest terrorist nation on earth. We are worse than Russia and China. Today we try to shove what we call democracy down the throats of other nations. We try to force them to vote the way we want them to. When all else fails, we boycott them, if that doesn't work we bomb them into hamburger. When are Americans going to get it, we have not been threatened by another country with the exception of Cuba since world war Two ended? And yet, we have been continuously at war since 1955.

Our politics have changed, we have accepted communism as an alternative to freedom, we have allowed people to embrace environmentalism as a new religion and they have traded our freedom to work where and when we please and have shut down our factories and industries to save fish, birds and other species which have nearly bankrupted our country. We have allowed our national treasury that we filled to the brim to be squandered supporting dictatorships and our enemies. As a result, our plentitudes have been exhausted and our infrastructure has suffered because we no longer have the money to fix our own country up. Yet we allow illegals to flood into our lands and to bring infectious diseases with them. They live better than some of our middle class and Americans are paying for it.

We are close to the breaking point and when we reach bottom in the land of milk and honey and there are no more beans and rice to feed us all, we will revolt and we will in all probability kill a lot of our enemies for doing to us what whole nations have never been able to do in the past. So, people such as those we who have been indoctrinating our children in the schools, and those who have allowed our freedoms to be taken away from us who we trusted to put in our offices to help us as a nation and as a people and to those who have been spouting the communist doctrines through the entertainment media and through the news outlets, they will suffer the full force of what the people will deliver to them. One only has to reflect on what happened to Mussolini and his mistress to see what anger can and will do to those who betray the rest of us.

I Gotta Feeling

I've been told I'm clairsentient. It's kind of like clairvoyance only you get what's called a "gut" feeling. I'm sure many of you are going to answer "No Sh*t Sherlock" when you hear my feeling. But I feel massive anarchy is going to be unleashed on or before November 8th and 1776 will repeat its self.

Not only do I feel the POTUS will "try" to issue a state of martial law; but I think we will probably be attacked by proxies of the other 2 big boys on the block. (N. Korea & Iran). It is going to be hard to tell the good from the bad. Our friends to the north will have their share of war as well, as most will expect insurgents to come from the south.

The country has already been infiltrated by the minions of George Soros in the factions of BLM, The New Black Panthers and Illegal immigrants (Not legal ones). I feel either this election will be the "Arch Duke Ferdinand" moment or the indictment of HRC. Once we turn on each other, China and Russia will see their opportunity to take down the city falling off the hill.

We were infiltrated in 2008. Not just by an Indonesian but by a mole from Tehran. Valerie Jarrett.

I had a dream of telling my grandkids what a piano was. How food used to be on shelves in things called grocery stores. How warm air used to come out of the walls and cold air in the summer time.

The only people in America that were thriving were native Americans that kept their ancestor's ways.

Anyway, it was just a feeling. I hope I'm wrong. But I was right about the Loma Prietta Earthquake in 1989. That very day I looked out and said: "It feels like Earthquake weather".

Please pray that I'm wrong this time. I know you don't need to be clair"anything" to tell something destructive this way comes. Probably on a Sunday when everyone is watching football or the few that still go to church.

Shipping container - roof rust prevention

I recently received delivery of a shipping container to store some equipment on my property.

It's in decent shape, just 1-2 welded repairs, and is currently water tight.

My concern is the roof. Minor rust now, but there are some dents that hold water. Also a few low spots where water pools. I tried some roofing tar to fill in the dings, but ironically it doesn't stick very well to the container. (That crap sticks to everything else)
I'm thinking that I have 3 options: sand out rust and prime/paint, push out dents and low spots from the inside, or build a slanted roof over the container.

Would a hydraulic bottle jack and a 2x4 be enough to push out roof dents?

Anyone build a simple roof over their container? if so, any tips?

Project: black powder pistol

Hello, i have been sketching for a while on a small black powder pistol, a project i'm now about to finish.
The gun will be of a small caliber, probably 6mm, and will be propelled by black powder, a variety of 6 grains (which is the same amount of black powder as the classic .22 extra long used, while the regular .22 long used 5 grains and .22 Short 4 grains) would be just enough for this caliber i think.

The steel choice i aim for is SS 2541 - 03 (ss EN 10083 1 (4340 steel) 34CrNiMoS6)

The thickness of the barrel and chamber will be about 9mm.
Is additional heat treatment and blueing necessary? The steel is already thougened as it is.
I don't know if "prehard" is the right word for it..
Otherwise i skip the extra job and use the steel as it is in brought condition.
I will probably not use real black powder, instead i go for some substitute, like pyrodex or tripple seven (FFFG) but the cleaning and greasing will be needed in any case..

Any thoughts about this project? The choice of material/steel etc.?

My prep fail of the day.

Luckily this was just an inconvenience on a rainy day and not something worse. So the wife left home about 0330. About 0345 I get a call that she has a flat tire. Now I had to get the kid ready to go and change her tire.

Upon arrival I tried to change to the spare. It wouldn't lower from its mount. Then it wouldn't raise. The damn thing was stuck about 6" down. There was no way of getting it down. So I hauled her to town and went back to it. I then pulled off the flat and hauled it back to town. It had to big of a hole to fix and they didn't have a new one in stock and would have to get ordered. Back to the Tahoe for more brainstorming.

After looking at it, I went back home and grabbed my angle grinder with a couple of cutoff wheels. I had to cut one of the ears off of the retainer then get it down and mounted. Now back to town to get the wife and have her drive it to work. I followed her as the spare (vintage 2005) was a little low.

The lesson for all here is to periodically check your spare hanger for function. Also check your spare for condition.

internal Frequency adjustment knob oopsie

I was tinkering with my radio (ICOM IC701) and turned the wrong know, the one for adjusting frequency inside the machine. I know I have been off by .3, so when we would meet on 7.225, I would have to be on 7.225.3 to hear the proper voice. I do not know how to correct this issue, unless I go on low power out, put the radio on transmit mode, and take my freq counter to the antenna, see what it reads, and make small adjustments. Is this the only way, or am I looking to hard at this issue?

My antenna is a 5BTV. Thanks in advance.

***Ladies Section*** October Rant

I know October is nearly over but I'm having a ****ty morning and need to vent. Not even 7 am and I already cleaned up two puddles of **** and one pile of ****.

I'd really REALLY like to track down the SOB who abused our poor rescue puppy to the point that she won't pee/poop in front of anyone or while on the lease. After several weeks, we've finally gotten her used to us enough that she'll go (most of the time) when we take her for a walk to a particularly brushy spot in the yard. Lots of bushes & tall grass to hide behind, don't make direct eye contact. But if the cats are around, she won't go. Doesn't really want to chase or play with them, just won't pee when they are around.

So this morning, after the teenager woke her up (got up extra early to prepare for away game) but didn't take the puppy outside, she peed on the playroom floor. I woke up to puppy's whining. Took puppy for a walk, but the cats decided to follow us. Puppy did nothing. Brought her inside, cleaned up first puddle, explained to teenager that first one up always takes puppy outside before doing anything else. Made myself a cup of coffee & sat down with my iPad and the news to restart day. Not even 3 minutes later, I smell that very distinctive smell. Sure, enough, on the kitchen floor right in front of the back door. And to make my day even better, she walked thru the pile and then climbed in bed with our son.

I took her for a walk. I stood calmly in her area, patiently giving her a chance to do her business. Not sure what more I can do. Feeling livid ****ed and completely dejected.

10 years, no Deer... is it the soap?

I've been hunting for the past 10 years and, have never seen a deer.

I sit up in a tree during bow season and, in a blind for rifle. I sit/stand still, use scent killers, I walk out to the truck to eat and, do my business(making sure to bury it). My spots have produced deer on a nearly regular basis for others in my family(whom are fairly picky hunters), but I've seen none.

At least until last weekend, where I did EVERYTHING wrong (noisy, moved around, washed my gear in un-softened water, showered with scented soap, ate lunch in the stand, made tea with a little camping stove and, screwed around with my phone) and, yet still had about 7 Doe and a button buck come thru.

I am confused now... aside from my movement and having lunch in the stand, the only physical/material thing that changed was the lack scent killers. Could my soaps be the actual problem? I use Hunters Specialties "Scent-A-Way" and Wildlife Research Center's "Scent Killer"

Condor Battle Belt - How to make it awesome. With Pics!

I have a Condor battle belt, and I like it. A lot.

The stitching is good, the PALS webbing is good, the inside padding is great, and overall it's a durable piece of kit.

But let's face it. It lacks some features that some high-dollar belts such as the HSGI belt have.

For about $15, I have improved the Condor battle belt to the point where, I believe, it is probably as good as anything else out there. That's my opinion of course, and I'm biased, obviously. But read on...

The first thing I did was get a set of USGI milsurp ALICE suspenders. These attach to the steel D rings on the Condor battle belt as if they were made for it. I got 2 sets of the "Y" style suspenders for $10. So my cost there was 5 bucks.

But the main problem is that the Condor belt is not very stiff. This allows the top of the belt to fold down if you have pouches attached and may allow things to flop around a bit if worn while running.

I've fixed that.

Here is how my belt looked before my mod. Yeah, it works, but it's floppy, loose, and kind of sad.

This is how it looks after my custom, low-buck mod:

How did I do it? I ordered a $10 piece of 1/8" thick HDPE plastic and cut it to fit:

http://ift.tt/2eRqH9u

The HDPE was shipped as a flat sheet, 12" x 48" wrapped in cardboard. I used the cardboard to cut out a pattern, test fit it, then laid it on the HDPE and traced around it with a Sharpie. Then I cut out the shape on the HDPE with my jig saw.

I actually ordered too much HDPE. I got a 12" by 48" sheet. The final measurements of my HDPE insert after cutting are 37" long and 5" at the widest part. If it was 36" long it wouldn't make much difference so this same mod could be done with a 3 foot x 6" piece of HDPE, for even less money.

I test fitted the HDPE and made marks, trimmed off some edges and basically tweaked it until I like it.

When I was done I slid it inside the battle belt, on the outside of the inner belt.

And once again, here is the belt holding it's shape:

Good luck!

I don't have a shotgun!!!

DefaultI don't have a shotgun!!!

So, as the title says, I'm shotgun poor. I have plenty of firepower and live on enough property to use it at will for hunting or target shooting. I am a little ashamed of myself for not owning a shotgun. Every time I go to buy a new firearm I find myself considering the fact that as time passes semi auto firearms with detachable mags will be harder to come by so that's what I get (except for my Henry lever action 22).
I have an affinity for a Remington 870 supermag combo. I can shoot all size shells, have 2 barrels and.....well??? What else should I consider for less than 500 bucks that gives me the option to use 3.5" shells and comes with two barrels??
I know this has most likely been asked 978 times and I should learn to use the search function but I'm feeling froggy and wanted to post a new thread!!! 😁
In all seriousness what are my options?? Uses would be skeet shooting, deer hunting, bird hunting and potentially the one gun gun that sits by my bed every night.

Hola, desde California

Safe storage of 1lb propane tanks

First off, I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere. I looked and only found info on the larger tanks.

I store the 1 pound tanks for my portable heater. I don't have a private outside area to keep it, but I do have a 'mudroom'. It's an unheated room off my kitchen where my backdoor is located. Would this be safe?

Is there anything I need to be aware of safety wise?
thank you!

Unbiblical Cop-outs: Don't Judge Me!

For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
-Isaiah 61:8

Any Christian who has ever given a Biblical rebuke has, at some point, heard this phrase: "You shouldn't judge, the Bible says so!" As the title of this article clearly states, this phrase is a quick unbiblical one-liner for those who claim to be Christians to spew out in an attempt to justify themselves, so they don't have listen to the truth.

cop out (v): to avoid one's responsibility; to back out
(See 'cop', Random House Dictionary, 2013, Random House Inc, retrieved Jan 14, 2014, [www.dictionary.com])

There is no place in the Bible that ever says we are not to judge. In fact, we have a responsibility as Christians to judge righteously. There are a number of verses that instruct and rebuke us on HOW to judge because judgment is a NECESSARY part of our lives, and without proper judgment, we would easily be decieved.

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
-John 7:24

Jesus Christ would not tell us to "judge righteous judgment," if Christians were not supposed to judge at all. Let's imagine you're asleep in your home, and suddenly you hear the crash of breaking glass. As you look out into your living room, you see a dark figure entering your home through your now-broken window. You haven't talked to him, you don't know him, but if you reach for your shotgun and/or call the police, then you are judging that man. When a stranger breaks into your home, you make righteous judgments to stop him in order to protect yourself and your family.

What the average church-goer actually means when he says "don't judge me," is: "Don't tell me anything that will cause me to feel uncomfortable about my actions and words." Because the Body of Christ has devolved into a luke-warm, feel-good country club, the modern Laodecian Christians seek out comforts intead of the truth of the Word.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
-2 Timothy 3:1-4

When a don't-judge-me Christian makes these excuses, they're referring to Matthew 7. Let's take a closer look at it and get a context for what Jesus Christ is teaching:

Judge not, that ye be not judged.
-Matthew 7:1

Typically, the average church-goer stops here, and doesn't read any more. There are two ways this could be interpreted:

1.) Don't judge others, so you won't be judged.
2.)Don't judge others as if you will not be judged the same way. (i.e. don't judge hypocritically)

How do we know which interpretation is correct? We keep reading:

For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
-Matthew 7:2-5

Nowhere in these verses does it say "don't judge." As we saw earlier, Jesus Christ taught us to "judge righteous judgment," but in Mat 7, he is also teaching not to judge as a hypocrite.

hypocrite (n): One who feigns to be what he is not; one who assumes a false appearance
(See 'hypocrite', Noah Webster's Dicitonary, 1828, retrieved Jan 16, 2014, [webstersdictionary1828.com])

So there are three types of hypocrites that come out of these verses, and first type are those that accuse another of not doing right, when accuser doesn't do right either. For example, a sister scolders her brother for not doing the dishes, but she doesn't do it either.

The second type of hypocrite is when the accuser does the same wicked action for which the accused is being rebuked. For example, a parent scolds a child for lying, but the parent lies all the time.

The third type is when the accused is said to be doing wrong, but the accused is actually doing right, and the accuser refuses to acknowledge that he is doing the same thing as the accused, but in the wrong manner. In fact, when a Christian says "don't judge me," he often refuses to acknowledge that he is judging the other person by labeling his neighbor as a "judger of others."

The Bible tells us we are to judge matters and people in the rightousness of the Word of God, but that we should examine ourselves first.

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
-2 Corinthians 13:5

Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
-1 Corinthians 11:13

Food for thought: As a Christian, what's the first thing you do when someone accuses you of something? Are you a scorner who immediately gets defensive and rejects rebuke, or do you analyze what they're saying, examining yourself objectively and righteously, to see if what they say is true?

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
-1 Corinthians 2:14-15

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
-1 Corinthians 11:32

My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
-Proverbs 3:11

And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
-Hebrews 12:5

If we would examine and judge ourselves in adherence to the righteousness of Jesus Christ in all matters, we would have no need to be judged of man. But when men say and do things that are contrary to Christ's doctrine, we Christians should have a desire for them (and ourselves) to be sound in the faith.

This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
-Titus 1:13

God also told the Jews that if they were to do well, they needed to seek righteous judgment:

Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
-Isaiah 1:17

And that they were righteous when they judged, but when judgment stopped, they were like harlots and murderers:

How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.
-Isaiah 1:21

The Bible tells us the reason men reject proper Biblical judgment and rebuke:

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
-1 Corinthians 2:12

This is why it is so wrong for Christians to call an unbeliever "stupid," because we were also once blind, but given knowledge by the spirit of God. That knowledge is a gift that was not earned, and by calling a scoffer heathen "stupid," you are telling them that they should be able to figure out the spiritual things of God on their own, without God giving them the same knowledge He gave you. (i.e. Don't judge hypocritically!)

Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
-1 Corinthians 2:13

So when we judge and rebuke, we need to do so from the foundation of the Word of God, not our own words.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
-1 Corinthians 2:14-15

If what we say and do matches what the Word of God says for us to say and do, then we are rightly dividing the word of truth, and we have no need to be ashamed of our words and actions, nor do we have a need to be judged of men.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
-2 Timothy 2:15-16

However, if what we say and do does NOT match what the Word of God says for us to say and do, then we need rebuke, and that requires proper Biblical judgment. And this is what the new-age church is rejecting. The Word of God should be paramount in our understanding, every word we speak, and every thing we do, because if it isn't, we'll end up doing what's right in our own eyes, instead of that which is right by Jesus Christ.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
-Proverbs 21:2

Preachers who teach the new-age false doctrine of "don't judge others" often quote from Romans 14:

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
-Romans 14:4

Of course, preachers today often do as other false religions do: they read one verse and make an entire doctrine out of it, instead of read the chapter as a whole to get the context of it's meaning. This chapter is referring specifically to traditions of the old covenant, like eating habits, or the sabbath day, and Paul says these are disputations that aren't worth arguing about.

Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
-Romans 14:1-3

The context is obvious when one slows down to read it carefully, that we ought not to judge minor issues, like eating habits. Some people might be weak in temperance to sins like gluttony, so they stick to a more rigid diet to put their flesh under subjection to the Word of God, and we should not judge a man for minor disputations like that.

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
-Romans 14:5-6

In my personal life, I don't see any need to give respect to a particular day of the week. Why is that?

And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
-Mark 2:24-28

So because of Romans 14, I do not judge men when they are personally convicted to give respect to the sabbath. However, I have had people write me and tell me I need to do a list of things on the sabbath, and honor the correct day of the week, etc, but I respond to them with Romans 14. Often, they refuse understanding of the matter, and continue to rail on me and condemn me for not respecting the sabbath day, but I sanctify myself from them and receive them not becasue the Word of God says:

Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
-Romans 14:1

Those that are going to cause contention over things the Bible clearly says not to dispute over, then we need to set ourselves apart from that man/woman. When the Bible asks us why we judge our brother, it's asking in the context of the subject matter of Romans 14.

But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
-Romans 14:10

When the Bible tells us that we judge all things, and judge righteous judgment, that means we judge matters based on God's Word, and God's Word gives specific standards to follow when judging. Verse 10 does not tell us that we should not judge, but judge not based on the minor disputes to which it is referring.

Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
-Romans 14:13

This is another verse I've seen commonly abused, where a Christian will read the first nine words, and then stop. Again the context is not to judge one another in disputations, but judge that no man put an occasion to fall in his brother's way, which means if a brother is teaching false doctrine and/or sinning, we need to judge and rebuke that matter so that other Christians will not find a stumblingblock in their path.

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
-Titus 2:15

If you will read more articles on our website, you'll notice we have many "judgments" that we make. We rebuke many sins and false teachings. We want our Christian brethren to be sound in the faith, and that requires judging a matter in the righteousness of the Word of God, but when a Christian says "don't judge me," he/she is teaching other Christians (by example) that judging is wrong, and therefore will put a stumblingblock for other Christians to use "don't judge me" as a quick one-liner to escape having to be told the truth about their sin, or to be convicted to repentance.

Let not then your good be evil spoken of: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
-Romans 14:16

But we have a different situation when someone is living in sin or teaching error, and we must judge matters Biblically to protect ourselves. Let's continue in Matthew 7, and we'll see why Jesus Christ told us not to judge hypocritically:

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
-Matthew 7:15-20

How can we know good/evil fruit if we don't judge it?

Imagine an usher at a church, passing around an offering plate, and you see him subtly take $100 out of the plate and put it in his pocket. What would you do? If you take any kind of action against what that usher did, then you judged him, because even if you tell someone else about it, you're saying something because you saw it to be wickedness, and you immediately judged his actions with righteous judgment.
(Read "Is Tithe a Christian Requirement?" here at creationliberty.com for more details.)

Even the unbelieving heathen of this world judges matters:

But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
-1 Corinthians 5:11-13

Because we are to be a peculiar people in Christ (1Pe 2:9), we have a responsibility to judge people in the church, and if they openly do wicked deeds, we are supposed to put them out of the church if they do not repent. The world looks upon true Christians as an example of righteousness and faith, and we should live in that, otherwise we give them the wrong impression of Jesus Christ, taking His name in vain. (Exd 20:7)

When Peter and John were performing miracles, the higher powers in Israel sought to shut them up and send them away, but had a hard time of it when blind men were made to see in front of everyone.

But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.
-Acts 4:17-19

If this new-age "don't judge" teaching were true, why would Peter and John tell the people to commit sin? There are no contradictions in the true Word of God, and they told the people to judge the matter because we are to judge with righteous judgment.

In our daily lives, we judge all the time. We judge the temperature of our bath water. We judge if a meal is properly cooked. We judge the clothing we wear with the weather outside. We judge all the time, every day, and if we didn't judge all the time, we would quickly end up dead.

But the important point here is that in order for us to know and understand the peace of the Lord God, we need to judge in His righteousness, from His Word.

Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. -Isaiah 59:7-8

And blindness in darkness will come upon those who do not judge in the rightousness of the Word:

Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men. We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us... and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.
-Isaiah 59:9-15

When someone judges our actions and words, and rebukes us, our first inclination should be to listen, which can be difficult if we are prideful. If the accusations they make against us are true, we should reconsider what we say and do so we can conform to the Word of God, but if their accusations are not true to God's Word, then we should judge the matter and offer an explanation and rebuke in return. If the other Christian refuses to listen, then let them go, because there is no reason to emulate the situation, which in turn causes contention.
(Read "Did Christ Come to Bring Peace?" here at creationliberty.com for more details about Christians setting themselves apart, or sanctifying themselves, from others.

The question we have to ask ourselves is not "Are we judging others?" It is obvious we judge others all the time. The questions we have to ask ourselves is: "Are we judging others in the righteousness of God's Word?" and, "Do we judge hypocritically?"

The way to make sure you're judging matters in the spirit of God is to study His Word continually. As we learn more of His Word, he will reveal to us our presumptuous sins (sins we don't even know we're committing), and through that, can make us into vessels of righteousness to go forth and set an example that instructs others to adhere to the doctrine of Jesus Christ in all matters of faith and practice.
