What do gun manufacturers use to finish wood gun stocks after staining? Or, do you have any recommendations on what to use? I refinished one years ago and after staining I used a clear satin varnish, which worked pretty well. It has certainly held up well, but even though it was a satin, it is a little too shiney for my liking and it was also a pain to do correctly.
