.223 for deer?

I know this has been asked a few times but this has a slightly different spin (as they all do).

I will be hunting for Coues deer, they are on the small side and rarely get above a 100lbs, last year we got "the big one" and he was 90lbs, this year we got spikes and they were 65 & 70lbs.

My plan is take a .308 for myself and .223 for the wife, within 150 yards .223 outside of that .308.

The .308 did great this year with Brown Bear SP ammo, the .270 did a lot of damage to such a small deer that's why I'd like to use the .223 and use Wolf 62gr HP rounds.

Does this sound viable?
