The gun will be of a small caliber, probably 6mm, and will be propelled by black powder, a variety of 6 grains (which is the same amount of black powder as the classic .22 extra long used, while the regular .22 long used 5 grains and .22 Short 4 grains) would be just enough for this caliber i think.
The steel choice i aim for is SS 2541 - 03 (ss EN 10083 1 (4340 steel) 34CrNiMoS6)
The thickness of the barrel and chamber will be about 9mm.
Is additional heat treatment and blueing necessary? The steel is already thougened as it is.
I don't know if "prehard" is the right word for it..
Otherwise i skip the extra job and use the steel as it is in brought condition.
I will probably not use real black powder, instead i go for some substitute, like pyrodex or tripple seven (FFFG) but the cleaning and greasing will be needed in any case..
Any thoughts about this project? The choice of material/steel etc.?
