This forum doesn't seem to have a section devoted to such an interest. Perhaps I missed it? Is there an active forum for underground enthusiasts?

A lot of threads and posts about underground shelters, bunkers, root cellars and such. The root cellars likely would be in the homesteading / gardening section. Some other underground shelter threads are in the DIY - do it yourself section.

There are quite a few threads and discussions about underground shelters in other sections but especially the NBC - nuclear, biological and chemical section. The very popular one with many views is this thread although many of the pics disappeared after the no good photobucket got greedy and try to force people to pay hundreds of dollars to post pics.

But this thread is still good with a Lot of info mainly info from links, videos etc. Almost 300,000 views so a few must like this bunker - underground shelter thread and there are posts about root cellars and other kinds of underground shelters also > http://www.survivalistboards.com/sho...d.php?t=107463

Might be best to start on page two of that thread link since more info and other links begin more on page 2.

There are many links and info throughout that long thread but might have to keep scrolling to see a lot of the info. YouTube has many videos about building underground although many of the videos are not very good or just show digging a hole without doing too much else. I can give more links if anyone asks and I can try to find more good info.

I know that many will not search or even click the one link I did give. An example of a post from that thread is this post from page 2 of that thread. Good info if people need to know more about underground structures and if you don't really want a bunker / protective structure. Being underground is usually great protection though. Example here >

Here are a Few advantages to having a Bunker some even call it an Underground house >

"We believe that when designed and built
properly on suitable sites, Post/Shoring/
Polyethylene, or PSP, underground dwellings
are the finest that can be constructed.
They have 23 distinct advantages over conventional
structures. These are:

1. NO FOUNDATION. - except the earth.
2. LESS BUILDING MATERIAL. - using lumber or logs.
3. LESS LABOR.
4. MOST AESTHETICALLY PLEASING.
5. LESS TAX.
6. WARM IN WINTER.
7. COOL IN SUMMER.
8. BETTER VIEW. - especially if built on a hillside.
9. BUILT-IN GREENHOUSE.
10. ECOLOGICALLY SOUND.
11. INCREASED YARD SPACE.
12. FALLOUT SHELTER.
13. CUTS ATMOSPHERIC RADIATION.
14. DEFENSIBLE.
15. CONCEALMENT.
16. CLOSER TO SOURCE OF WATER.
17. RELATIVELY FIREPROOF.
18. PIPES NEVER FREEZE.
19. SUPERIOR FLOORING.
20. CAN BE BUILT BY ANYONE.
21. WEATHERPROOF. - extremely good tornado, blizzard and storm protection...
22. LESS MAINTENANCE.
23. SOUNDPROOF."
