Bug out canoe?

Bugging in is best, yadda yadda yadda.

That out of the way..

Has anyone else contemplated using a roof mounted canoe or small boat for bugging out?

Many lakes only have road access to one side or one point, making the far shore very difficult to reach except by boat.

Trailers significantly reduce off road maneuverability.

Large boats require boat ramps to be launched.

But a small boat, that can be hand launched can be easily strapped to the top of vehicle. Driven any distance needed to a mountain lake, launched, loaded up with the entire contents of most small SUV's, 800 lbs in the case of a large canoe, and then paddled, or swiftly and quietly motored with a small cheap trolling motor miles across a lake to the opposite shore to set up a camp that will be on the other side of a significant 'filter' to the general population, who may decide to bug out to a lake...but for whom only a fraction will actually have a boat or consider walking the long way around to the far shore.

Even if not plan A, a canoe on the roof has a marginal impact on driving ability and may be a good idea EVEN IF going to the lake is not your plan, but simply as a contingency in case you find your path blocked, flooded out, etc and need to get on the water.

Having a second vehicle, that you can strap to the top of your first and which can probably hold everything else in your primary vehicle may be a very good prep, instead of, or in addition to a bicycle or folding car which could only take a fraction of your gear and with much greater physical effort.

It may be worth having, 'just in case'
