Why are politicians committing political suicide?

• NY Mayor DeBlasio shuts down the NYPD Anti-crime bureau while crime skyrockets.
  
• California governor releases 8,000 prisoners while crime skyrockets.
  
• Portland mayor tells police to stand down while the city burns.

These are just a few examples - there are more.

WHY are these people committing political suicide?!?!

I can only think of a few reasons:

• They are completely tone deaf and actually believe that the public is on their side.
  
• They know that they will lose come November so they feel that they have nothing to lose.
  
• They know that no real election will take place in November or for a long time thereafter so they feel that they are safe.
  
• They fear Antifa if they should go against the wishes of the left.
  
• There are plans for someone or something else to take power and THAT is what they really fear.

What do you guys think? One of these things or something else?
