This series helps you grasp what life without petroleum advantages are like.
(Yes, it's overly dramatic and not exactly real.... People would know how to light a fire for instance.)
But I watch a fair amount of documentaries (and read them) and I think it's pretty good for getting the basic point across.
...a few solar panels etc (even if the batteries die) can give you QUITE the advantage.
