Brown Watersnake or Moccasin

Definitely water snake. The vertical bars on the lower jaw give it away.

No non venomous snake in North America will have vertical bars on the lower jaw, btw. That's a good bit of info to keep in your tool box.

I always look for the dark stripe running horizontally along the eye to verify cottonmouth.
