Let me start by saying that there is nothing about owning acreage that makes a person any of the following:
- smarter
- morally superior
- a harder worker
- stronger
- more patriotic
- wiser in the ways of the world
This country began with an abhorrence for those who felt they were privileged based on where and how they were born. "Country Folks" arrogance is so prevalent on these boards it's a cliche. You won't have to read for long before you come across the mention of "city folks". Let's be honest. When the term is used it's never a statement like this:
"Me and my wife/sister Melba sure do love us some of them hard workin', morally grounded city folks. Woohoo...salt of the earth these city folks are...salt of the earth."
OH nay nay...the comments are usually a bit condescending (that means to talk down to). This is a more likely use of the term "city folks" on these boards.
"Them dern city folks wouldn't know what to do in a shtf scenario if they didn't have one of them 7-11s to go to. I gots me a satelite TV just so I can watch them all burn when the good lord comes back to destroy their fancy concrete roads and indoor plumbin."
All of this has me a bit confused. My experience in life doesn't seem to quite line up with the demi-god-esque view "country folks" have of themselves. I guess after 46 years, I've come to the conclusion that folks are just folks.
You can drive a tractor and stick your arm half way up a cow's ass? Impressive. My dad along with hundreds of thousands of other auto workers here in Detroit used to dig piles of dirt out of the ground and turn them into frikken cars. I think that is pretty bad ass!! Y'all wave at each other when you pass each other on yer dirt roads? Oh wow, how kind and neighborly of you...I guess you were a bit too far away to rush in with the 343 city-dwelling-firefighters who lost their lives instantly when the twin towers fell.
Ya see...believe it or not..."city folks" are just as resourceful, honorable, moral, hardworking, and neighborly. We love God and our families. We work hard for our living. We send our kids to war along side yours. We pray that God will bless all of America. And many of us will survive and thrive when the shtf.
Every time you suggest that you are superior just because you're house is 1/2 mile from the one down the hollow (or holler...or whatever the eff you call it), I laugh a little bit inside and know that I'm reading the words of a neurotic little person with delusions of grandeur and no real sense of what actually constitutes quality of character and virtue.
