NRA vs GOA

NRA is the big dog. They got CCL in Illinois, and in Cali and Hawaii (pending) and are the ones who throw up the millions to fight court cases, from choosing winning cases to hiring the finest legal minds. They have recently shifted from a FUDD organization focusing on hunting, to embracing 2A and shooting sports with a focus on MSRs and military collectibles. With their fee you get firearms insurance, a relavent magazine, and part of the money goes to support many, many fiearms safety and education programs across the country.

GOA is the small rabid dog. They dont back down, fund a few of the more radical cases that NRA wont, and are uncompromising in supporting the 2A's true meaning almost to exclusion of ignoring the Hunting/Collecting contingent. They would love to see stinger missles in the hands of 18yo's. As would we all.

In general, the NRA actually gets a LOT more done, but are more conservative and long-term big-picture. They are winning cases today so they have a precedent on another planned case 10 years from now. They offer a lot more for the money, and do a lot more for the populace. The GOA is more in your face, and focuses more on fighting todays infringements, no matter how small. I feel most gun owners would be better served by contributing to NRA first, then GOA next if they can find the money.

It might also be worth your time to see if you have a local state-level association that is active.
