NYC quake article

Interesting article from the author of a new book on seismic activity in and around NYC:

Growing up in NYC during the 1970s, I never heard/read much about the fault lines under Manhattan. Never remember any tremors either, except upstate in the Adirondack region. But the fault lines are very real, and the NYC infrastructure is extremely vulnerable. Glad I'm now four hours due west of NYC in cow country.

If a medium quake were to hit directly under NYC, it would cause something as close to SHTF as any tropical storm, hurricane, etc. It would be catastrophic. Don't know how a city dweller could properly prepare to leave since most access would be cut off into and out of Manhattan and the boroughs. Scary stuff to think about.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
