About Nova Scotia, there has been no official announcement, so all we can go on is speculation, but the speculation is that the murderer in Nova Scotia acquired illegally all his murdering firearms. I have heard of comment such as "not know to have a firearms licence in Canada" (as if something would suddenly be OK because he had one in Burkina Faso or Guyana)... but, no official announcement... a bit convenient, I'd say...
About the Ecole Polytechnique, that event happened in 1989, by a mentally unstable person who was failed multiple times at community level and by his family (he should have had some sort of treatment earlier on in his life, should never have been given a firearms licence).
If all we have to ban a lot of firearms in Canada is going by a massacre committed by someone who acquired firearms illegally and one mentally unstable person who acquired a mini14 legally in 1989... I'd say that the legislation and methods for firearms in Canada are working, or at least, were until today...
