1911 as shtf pistol?

I used to carry Colt 1911's, and for a good long time. As long as youre comfortable with it, and well practiced with it, it shouldnt be a big deal, if thats the gun you want.

These days, I carry Glocks. What led me there, was 1911's.

1911's are great guns as long as you have one thats works. With everyone and their brother making one these days, finding one that does, can be a challenge.

I always found the Colts and GI guns to be the most reliable. The "clones", not so much. Towards the end of my using them regularly, even Colt was getting annoying. Not so much a function or reliability issue, but Colt started really cheaping out with plastic parts and a few other things.

One thing with things like SIG, HK, and Glock, generally all you need right out of the box is ammo. Theres no fiddling or break in required, and of those three listed, I really wouldnt have a problem loading one and putting it in my holster, right from the box, not that I would, but my experience with them has shown I could.

As far as capacity goes, thats up to you, but reality tends to open your eyes to things once you start considering multiple threats and see how quickly the lower cap guns go dry in realistic practice. A lot of people will tell you they are a crack shot, and many are, when standing still and shooting bullseyes. At some movement, on both ends, and consider that youre just shooting a pistol round and that it takes whatever it takes to solve the problem, having that extra ammo on board is comforting.

My 17 is smaller than my old Commander, yet carries twice the onboard ammo. Even my 26 carries more and can be just as big as the 17 with a reload.
