Never Draw a Handgun Unless.....

This is a common thing I hear from people who carry or are thinking about carrying a handgun. It goes something like:

"In a self-defense situation, the only reason to draw a gun is to fire it. Never take it out of the holster unless you are going to shoot."

What do you guys think about this concept, principle, or rule that is pervasively passed around by so many people packing guns? I will hold off on sharing my opinion at the moment.
