What to do with almost new 5kw generator from 1999?

Greetings,

In late 1999 for Y2K prep, my father bought a brand new 5000W Generac (Model 01140-0) with a 10 hp Tecumseh gas engine, 6250W surge, and made in the USA. He personally thought it seemed way too loud and had way too much vibration, possibly being a victim of poor QA/QC in the run-up to Y2K. He test ran it for about an hour and put it back into the garage, unfortunately leaving some gas still in it.

Fast forward to 2017. My family now lives in the house and that generator has NOT been operated for 18 years. The home has been remodeled, and most everything now has solid state controls- furnace, AC, fridge, let alone the TV, DVR, modem, etc. The LAST thing I want to do is hook-up a dirty power source, fry a bunch of equipment just to keep some lights on, AND acoustically advertise for a one mile radius that I have a functional generator.

What should we do with this generator? How much would it be worth? It still is essentially “brand new”, but the last time it turned over was 1999. Options include:

- Sell it “as is”- put money towards a quality inverter product.

- Get it serviced, checked out, and then sell it- put money towards a quality inverter product.

- Get it serviced, checked out, and find some place to store its bulky butt.

I welcome your thoughts.

Thanks,

Hunter
