My hubby and I have been looking at burying a shipping container to keep our extra stuff in. After tons of research we learned that it would cost a ton to reinforce the container sides and ceiling to keep it from caving in.
So, are there other options that don't an cost and arm and a leg and would be safe from caving in and have lots of space for shelves? What about cinder/cement blocks? Has anyone here buried a homemade 'shed' or made a fruit cellar that was sturdy and usable for years?
In our case - it would actually be buried in a hillside so the front end will not be underground... we will be able to walk down just a couple of steps into it or directly into it depending how deep we excavate. The dirt over the top will only be around 1 - 2 feet deep and a wood deck will actually be over the top of it once it's done.
We don't have a water issue here, it's very dry but we will make sure any drainage issues are addressed.
We don't have earthquakes here either.
