Community

This might get a little rambley.
Sorry/you were warned/turn back now if that's a problem.

After the FD meeting tonight I went over and watched a movie with a couple buddies.

One of them is a self proclaimed "prepper" but being underemployed limits him. He's good for a few months, but is a gangbusters Gardner, had 50+ chickens etc.
Weak on weapons, but I can help with that and training.

The other is an Army combat vet and a Farmer.
He's done the "guy thing" (you know what I mean.... if guy #1 is right we will butcher livestock, Bardertown etc)
No "proactive measures", but a good asset, and (as I profess) into community, and sustainability.

Where I fit in:
I'm offgrid, I am known to can, and those 2 know I carry a Glock and have a couple rifles. (They don't know about volumes, or the fact I have suppreszors, body armor, or NVG'S)
They also don't know that I prep.
In fact I mock (lightly) guy #1, and talk about getting ready for retirement instead. (But they both know I can/do go weeks without going to town.... that's no secret, and not really that rare around here.)

#3 (leave me out of the numbering sequence)
Was a supprise, 'admitted' to me they were worried "about the world ending" knows less about me or my preps than the little 1 &2 know about.
(1-2 know about my home canned stuff and solar powered freezer)
None know about my freeze dried or bulk goods or plans to feed my neighbors.
#3 professed to be more worried about "feeding the community" (#1 and 3 are both most worried about 'economic collapse')

I offered "when you see it coming" I'll drive my trailer to Sam's so we can load up on beans and rice.

-more on my tactic: I admit to having seen 3rd world countries, having my degree in Emergency Mgmt, and "sure stuff like ice storms is gonna happen" and it's good to have some extra food.
I'll even cop to canning and admit to "a couple hundred" (really 3,000) tattler lids.

I offered with both #1 and #3 to tell the other about the other if they want. (I refused to say who the other was without permission.
I see it as important that they know I can keep a secret.)

Tangent: #1 &2 and I have discussed "community garden"
I already give away extra produce at church and started a seed savers/sharing group. I just play up the hippy dippy side.

I'd LIKE it if there was a way of organizing this. (Community/efforts)
But I don't see a way (at this time) without irriparably damaging my OPSEC.

I know it's intact from things they have said.
With #3 I copped so far as to admitting to liking "post apocalypse fiction" and recomending "One second after"
Of course I followed it up by talking about books about alien
invasion to muddy the waters.

I don't see that there's enough Bennifit from "coming out" to them (particularly as both their OPSEC sucks so much) that would outweigh blowing my profile.
I just wish there were some way to finess this.
Eta: "this" being proactively planning/prepping for the (very rural) community.

Already share gardening bits, labor etc.
