Prepping for a radicalized political environment

I have noticed a disturbing trend since the November 2016 election.

It is the emergence of an increasingly radicalized and prone-to-violence Left in America. It seems that the election of Donald Trump--regardless of whether you are for him or not---has aroused an unprecedented level of fury in the Left.

I am old enough to remember the turmoil of the 1960's, the war protests, riots, etc. But what I see now far surpasses anything that happened back then. Rather than mere political disagreements, I am now seeing a demonization of conservative and even moderate persons, because of their political beliefs.

It's remarkably similar to what was happening in Germany, immediately prior to the rise of Hitler. No longer was it merely people marching and carrying signs, but they had regular pitched battles in the streets of Berlin.

Some of the actions of Antifa, and many of the utterances of such groups as Black Lives Matter, go way beyond political posturing. They increasingly advocate not merely disagreement, but outright destruction of those who oppose them.

Much "prepping" is based on the assumption of disasters such as asteroid strikes, supervolcanoes, epidemics, and even EMPs.

But how do you, as a prepper, prepare to survive in a country where political radicalization has taken hold? A world where a neighbor a co-worker or merely someone you meet on the street, suspects or accuses you of being "the other". And hence you are suddenly viewed as someone who is "evil", who must be destroyed and/or silenced.

What do you do when you live in a country, where large segments of the media wage a deliberate campaign to stir-up resentment against you? Where you are---at best--depicted as a "deplorable" and misguided, and should be marginalized. Or at worst--an evil element that must be re-educated or even "eliminated".

Just read some op-eds, from major news outlets, or watch some videos on the Internet. This exact thing is happening here and now. Do a search for the many incidents in our universities. Which should be bastions of free speech and exchange of ideas. Where a student or teacher has in effect been "silenced", for expressing a political viewpoint that runs counter to the party line.

Living in a society where supporting an elected president, opposing the destruction of statues and monuments, trying to run an honest business, or expressing patriotism. Could result in retaliation in the middle of the night. And not from the police or the government per se, but from self-appointed vigilantes who hate both you and your ideas?

How do you prepare for that?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
