Example 1. When President Obama probably had the votes during his first term he did nothing for the anti gun zealots that helped put him in office. To the horror of the anti gun crowd President Obama did nothing to reinstate the Brady Bill and only came out for universal background checks and limiting access to firearms for the mentally disturbed or those on the "No Fly List" late in the game.
It wasn't until after the Sandy Hook shootings he gave this issue more than lip service. To a lot of die hards on the far left Obama ended up being way to middle of the road when it came to policy. Some actually referred to the former President as "Bush Lite". This was due to his not getting us out of the wars quicker, lack of firearms legislation, not passing single payer healthcare legislation and what they perceived as a weak stance on gay rights.
Example 2. Back when President Reagan supported the Brady Bill a lot of conservative voters were disappointed. I remember what a pain and how expensive it was trying to buy high quality, large capacity mags for my A1 back then. Mr. Reagan further riled parts of his base by backing amnesty for some illegal aliens.
Today Fox News is quoting Sarah Sanders as saying the President is considering revisions and changes to the current federal background check system. Is Mr. Trump going to do the typical politician thing and change his position based on the current political climate?
Will the President push for a more stringent background check system, possibly even extending it to private and or inter family transactions and gun shows? The NRA spent record amounts of money helping Mr. Trump attain office but will the President provide them with the return on investment they anticipated?
Keep in mind it wasn't that long ago Mr Trump was a moderate Democrat and supported a ban on so called "assault rifles".
Will President Trump support background checks for firearm purchases?
