Can a man teach himself extreme long range shooting?

We get newbie / troll posts from time to time - "What's the best gun to shoot 1,500, 1700 or 2,000 yard."

Humans can learn anything pretty much given the time and resources. But somethings are outside the norm.

Could I teach myself to play golf? Set aside why would I want to, but sure I could teach to play golf. Could I teach myself to compete in the Masters - unlikely and realistically impossible. Even the professional golfers have coaches.

Now I have the urge to plop down some cash and have a vacation at one of the long range shooting schools

Haven't fished in years....

We used to go fishing when I was a kid. I'm 40 now and have a kid who wants to go. Problem is, I know that there are times when you're more likely to catch a fish and other times when you're just drowning a worm and I know that there are times when drowning worms is perfectly acceptable. But I would like to choose days and times when we are more likely to catch a few fish.
I know that time of day, time of year, temperature, play roles but what else do I need to read up on?
I'm really not picky as to what type of fish I catch, though in the past I caught mostly bluegill. I think we will start with worms and I might play with lures a bit.

So, any other tips and tricks I haven't learned or have forgotten. Like, when fishing in a river, how do you keep from having to re-cast so frequently?

SHTF. You arrive at BOL. Tank arrives. Game over?

I live less than a mile from where 2 sitting Presidents have given open air speeches. Was fun to watch the preparations. Old gov. site with a nice 4 story tower that was used to protect the grounds. All around open space farm lands.
A few rented semi trailers , some chains and a few heavy earth movers and they could stop any car or truck based attack. Made the crowd walk up and around a nice temp wall that blocked vision until one entered and gave the attendant their ticket.
Nice.

But I have given up on making a BOL here. Anything I can build is rubble without firing a shot if even a reserve tank arrives. Even this location good enough for 2 Presidential speeches.

Game over?
