Denied when trying to purchase rifle

Today, I decided to purchase a 22 rifle, I do not own any guns, but like to shoot.

I went to the shop and picked one out, filled out the forum and 5 minutes later the clerk said I was denied.

I do have a misdemeanor on my record, but only served a months jail time, this was years ago. Is this preventing me from purchasing?

Furthermore, did I unknowingly commit a felony filling out that form?

This whole thing is confusing to me.

I answered all the questions correctly to the best of my ability, yes I'm buying for myself, and no to everything else as they were worded.
