Gas mask filter questions

I want to get a gas mask, or multiple. But I don't know which ones I should get because I'm not sure which filters I can use.

Let's consider a few masks.

First the Israeli Civilian mask. I know it takes NATO 40mm, but are all NATO filters interchangeable with each other? I also think I read somewhere that the Israeli mask can also take GOST filters, is this true? Can I stick any 40mm NATO filter on this mask and breathe safely?

If I get an American M40 mask, can it take both a C2A1 filter, and an Israeli M80 filter? What about some swedish filter that says it's NATO 40mm? Do they all work? The same question about the Israeli mask, will any 40mm NATO filter fit this mask? Will any 40mm NATO filter fit any 40mm NATO mask?

If I get a PMK-3 Russian military gas mask, which takes GOST filters, what do I have to do to make it accept 40mm NATO filters? I know there's some kind of adapter, but which NATO filters work with which adapters? Is it possible that a 40mm NATO filter will also work without any special adapter? Is this guaranteed or just a fluke?

Sorry for so many questions, I just really want to be sure of my decision before I buy a mask and filters and find they're incompatible.
