General question about 1911s in a certain price range.

Tough question to answer with any real accuracy.
Lot's of good 1911's out there, lot's of them are overpriced.

Personally I don't think most mass production 1911's are that different. Best thing would be to look into the companies current QC, recent reviews of their pistols, etc...
All in all I think the 1911 market is overpriced in the mass production lane. With Glocks, Sigs, CZ's and so many other great pistols being <>$500, why is a comparable 1911 $800? Makes no sense, just marketing nostalgia at some level I guess.

Where costs start to catch up is in the custom and semi-custom arena. Nothing really like an actual, hand fit and finished pistol. Function and actual utility might not change much from the lower priced models (they're just bullet delivery devices, after all), but perceptual value matters too.
