How much ammo do you really need?

I agree with AZ

So many of the certifiably insane preppers, the vocal, the wack-job ones, those 'preppers' will garner the attention of people new to the hobby. These survival nut-jobs bloviate about their rediculous ammo cravings i.e. 1000 rounds per weapon etc

There is nothing wrong with having 1000's of rounds, they actually doesn't last long on weekend shoots. But those rounds are range ammo and not what I want in my rifle, let alone handgun, during a SHTF event

Long, long ago my ammo was demarcated range play or defensive in use. Range ammo are usually ball, FMJ and Defensive rounds are hollow point. I no longer bother with brands such as Wolf, Magtech, S&B, etc. I still purchase range ammo in bulk, but only the higher grain rounds that mimic my defensive rounds

If the SHTF, I only want HP, defensive, human killers stacked in magazines

Any range ammo would be the LAST cans to be loaded into the Fj Cruiser as I toss a match down the stairwell of the house and fled the zombie horde

I keep my range ammo in a fire cabinet designed for flammable liquids rather than the gun safes. Range and Defensive ammo species never meet

If the SHTF, range ammo is lower on the list than hand soap or toilet paper

A few hundred rounds of quality HP are all I need for each weapon. One 30cal ammo can each of FN5.7, 9mm, 40S&W, 45ACP, 22LR, 5.56, 7.62, 308 and everyone would be set for life (the only aberration are the shotgun shells, those are kept in 40mm ammo cans and one each for bird and 00 buck)

That still is 10 ammo cans worth of bang...

AZ, you have me thinking now, maybe I should create assorted 'Pistol' & 'Rifle' grab cans. One with ~100-200 rounds for each of the 4 pistol calibers we use and one can each for AK, AR, 308, 22LR, and one can each for shotgun shells - that is STILL seven cans! Holy crap... I am one of the crazy ammo hoarders

Let's block ads! (Why?)
