I grew up in a family that canned.... a fair amount. (Understatement)
And naturally I'd get drafted. (Like every kid, I didn't appreciate it, I'd rather be reading or playing in the woods.)
We also dehydrated quite a bit.
Jerkey sure, but mostly fruit.
Dried apple slices and fruit leathers were routine snacks.
Which leads me to today and feeling like an idiot.
I canned fruit juce (which I grew up doing) in this case peach, and I'm looking at the bowl of "leftovers" and since I hate waste I'm looking at it thinking "what can I use this for?" (Other than feeding chickens)
....when I realized.... looking at the texture... I'm looking at fruit leathers.
(And NOW I know why there were always so many around! It was my depression era Grandmother's refusal to throw ANYTHING useful away!)
Which I seem to have inherrited.
I'm not going to do it now, I'll stick it in the freezer and probably make it in my new wood cookstove this winter.
But I wanted to laugh at myself and help share... I guess the usefulness, and not to throw anything away.
I must of eaten thousands of the things and it just never crossed my mind.... juce first (I always disconnected those tasks in my head some kind of way....) leathers later.
peaches minus juce =
