Evil Goat Head Stickers

I just moved to a house with acreage and discovered it is infested with goat's head stickers. I have dealt with these horrible plants in New Mexico and hoped I would never see them again. Right now, I am digging up plants and using a broom to sweep up the thorns, but I would love to find a herbicide that kills the small ones. Round-up just made them greener.

Next spring I will mass spray a pre-emergent, but for now, what can I use? Anybody have any luck with these horrible things? If you have never dealt with them, count yourself lucky. They go right through the soles of shoes and tires, and hurt pets, kids and wildlife.
