We talked a bit and he explained he was unemployed, had a wife and two kids and was in dire straits. He wanted a truck to start a business cleaning up stuff for people from their homes. After a bit, I asked him what he planned on charging people for his labor. We worked out a wage of $20/hr which would work okay.
So I gave him the pick-up and told him I'd want him to work at my farm and I'd knock off $30/hr for each hour he spent working. He agreed and drove off with the truck. Simple handshake deal.
Never saw the guy again. That was three years ago. He showed back up yesterday. I saw that old truck pull in and was surprised. He explained he had found a part-time job and between that and the odd jobs he was doing, he had gotten busy but he was ready to work. He did some fencing repairs for about 4 hrs yesterday. Said he'd be back on Tuesday with his wife and asked if she counted for the same deal. I asked if they minded cleaning up horse crap and weed-whacking. He said, no problem. So sometimes it works out...
Just thought I'd share something nice.
Giving a helping hand- works sometimes...
