question re ruger lcp malfunctions

I have an LCP I carry when I'm not dressed right to carry my .40 cal Glock. I've fired several hundred rounds through the .380, and even used it to teach a few women how to shoot, and it's been very reliable. The other day I went out to the range and had an old box of USA ammo (which I stopped buying quite awhile ago). I had one or two malfunctions out of every magazine load (and it's only a 6 round magazine). I know USA ammo is no good and there seems to be little doubt the bad ammo was the reason. My question is this:

Every malfunction was the same: the empty shell casing was not extracted from the chamber; it was like the extractor just didn't grab the shell casing. When I pulled the slide back manually the shell casing pulled out easily, every time. I don't see how defective ammo could cause that type of malfunction. But then I'm not a gunsmith or any kind of expert on this subject. So maybe someone who knows more than I do about the subject can tell me if and how bad ammo can cause this type of malfunction.

It's possible that the gun developed a problem the same time I happened to bring that box of ammo out to the range. It's unlikely, but not impossible; weirder coincidences have happened. It's the only type of ammo I had so I couldn't try the gun with different ammo. And I won't be back out to the range for a few weeks. So I'd like to know if I can depend on my lcp now that I have good ammo in it again.

Thanks.
