WTF?!? Recaptcha to see if I'm a robot?!?

WTF is the deal with this recaptcha nonsense to see if a user is somehow a robot typing a reply to a thread?

And if there really is any reason for this crap why not make sure that it works before implementing it?

The version of Recaptcha used here, correctly figures out that the poster is human, but then just hangs at a blank page instead of actually posting the reply.
